Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Closes Regular Season At YSU On Saturday

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will close out regular season play on the road this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State on Saturday, April 22.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings picked up back-to-back wins at Northern Kentucky (4-3) and IUPUI (6-1), extending their current win streak to eight straight matches and improving to 19-6 on the year and 7-0 in #HLTennis play.  

Vikings Clinch North Division Regular Season Title
With the 6-1 victory over IUPUI last time out, Cleveland State clinched the Horizon League North Division Regular Season Title, claiming a top seed in the upcoming #HLTennis Tournament. This marks the first year that the Horizon League was split into a North and South Division, with Cleveland State – the preseason favorite to win the North Division – capturing the first-ever North Division regular season title.  

Cleveland State Closing In On Perfect #HLTennis Slate
With a win on Saturday, the Vikings would cap off an undefeated Regular Season Horizon League slate. Cleveland State, who currently stands at 7-0 in league play, would mark the sixth perfect #HLTennis campaign in program history with a win at YSU on Saturday.  

…Chasing A 20-Win Campaign | 2023 Schedule
A win on Saturday would also give Cleveland State its 20th victory of the season, marking just the third 20-win campaign in program history. The last 20-win season for the Vikings came during the 2009-10 campaign when they finished 20-7, following a 20-6 year during 2008-09.  

Vikings Sweep #HLTennis Weekly Awards | Full Release 
Earlier this week the Vikings swept the Horizon League Weekly Awards, with Maxime Mareschal-Hay earning Singles Player of the Week and Kade Mindry/Raul Teichmann being named the Doubles Team of the Week. This marked the third time this season that Cleveland State has swept the weekly awards, while it marked a league-best third weekly award for Mareschal-Hay. 

Mindry Notches 50th Career Singles Win
With a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against Northern Kentucky last weekend, Kade Mindry eclipsed the 50-win mark for his collegiate career, entering Saturday's regular season finale with 51 career wins. Mindry became the third current Viking to join the 50-win club, joining teammates Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Raul Teichmann.  

Teichmann Closing In On Single-Season Wins List
Entering the final week of regular season play, Raul Teichmann has a team-best 24-10 singles record on the year, just one win shy of cracking the top-10 list for wins in a single-season. With one more victory, Teichmann would mark the 13th time that a Viking has reached the 25-win plateau in a season, and would be tied for ninth on the single-season wins list with Matthew Terry (2018-19), Manuel Bellutti (2013-14), Yannick Goossens (2009-10), and Phil Orno (2007-08).
