CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State wrestling team picked up a split of a pair of Eastern Wrestling League matches over the weekend, defeating Lock Haven on Saturday night before falling to Bloomsburg on Sunday afternoon. With the split, Cleveland State is 7-8 on the season, and 1-3 in the EWL.

Against Lock Haven, CSU and Lock Haven both won five matches, with the difference being a trio of major decisions for the Vikings. Matt Kallai got the Vikings started with a 10-1 major decision at 174 before DeAngelo Penn scored a 12-3 win at 125. Anthony Coleman got back on the winning track with a major of his own, picking up a 13-5 win at 141. Russ Davie and Joe Phillips also scored decisions for the Vikings in the 18-15 win.

On Sunday against Bloomsburg, the Vikings fell behind early, trailing by 11 points after the first two matches. Again, each team took five of the bouts, but unlike Saturday, the Vikings were on the lower end. For of the Viking victories were by decision, with a fall by Russ Davie at heavyweight in 41 seconds as the lone exception. By contrast, Bloomsburg scored three falls and a major decision, in addition to an overtime decision.

Kallai, Phillips, Coleman and Jason Effner each scored decisions for Cleveland State on Sunday, with the first three notching their second victory of the weekend.

The Vikings will look to even their record on Thurs., Feb. 12, when they welcome Virginia Tech to Woodling Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. battle.
