FAIRFAX, Va. – The Vikings closed out the regular season with a 22-15 come from behind victory over George Mason on Sunday afternoon. Cleveland State ends the dual portion of the schedule with an 8-9 overall record and 5-5 record in MAC matches.
George Mason claimed the opening three points with a 7-1 decision at 125-pounds. Jake Manley matched the decision at 133-pounds, winning 11-6 as the score was tied at three-apiece.
The Patriots went back on top, 8-3, with a 15-0 technical fall at 141-pounds. No. 31/33 Marcus Robinson recorded a 10-1 major decision at 149-pounds to bring the Vikings to within one, 8-7. GMU answered right back with an 8-0 major decision at 157-pounds, extending their advantage to 12-7.
Riley Smucker picked up a 6-1 decision at 165-pounds as Cleveland State trimmed their deficit to 12-10. George Mason came right back with a 7-1 decision at 174-pounds, upping the margin to 15-10.
A 5-3 decision at 184-pounds by DeAndre Nassar brought the Green and White to within two, 15-13. Cleveland State then took their first lead of the afternoon, 16-15, after Ben Smith recorded a takedown with 13 seconds left to win 5-4 at 197-pounds.
Daniel Bucknavich sealed the victory for the Vikings with a fall in 3:07 as Cleveland State won the regular-season finale, 22-15.
