Mareschal-Hay Named #HLTennis Player of the Year; Erler & Teichmann Second Team All-League 

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After capturing the Horizon League North Division Regular Season title and earning a No. 1 seed for the upcoming #HLTennis Tournament, the Cleveland State men's tennis team was honored with multiple postseason accolades from the league Thursday, with Maxime Mareschal-Hay, Mikael Erler and Raul Teichmann all earning postseason awards.

Mareschal-Hay was named the 2023 Horizon League Player of the Year and First Team honoree, while Erler and Teichmann both earned a spot on the All-League Second Team.

This marks the fifth time that Cleveland State has claimed Player of the Year honors, and the fourth time over the last five years (Matthew Terry 2021; Nico Mostardi 2019, 2018)

MAXIME MARESCHAL-HAY | JR | PLAYER OF THE YEAR & FIRST TEAM
Mareschal-Hay picks up Player of the Year honors after posting a perfect 8-0 record against Horizon League opponents at No. 1 singles, marking the first undefeated #HLTennis slate of his career. On the year, Mareschal-Hay is tied for the team-lead with 24 singles wins, including a 17-1 mark when playing at the top of the lineup.  

During the season Mareschal-Hay picked up Horizon League Singles Player of the Week accolades three times – a league-best – and is currently on an eight-match win streak. Entering tournament play, Mareschal-Hay leads the team with 59 career singles wins, and is just one win shy of becoming the 15th Viking all-time to reach the 60-win milestone. 

In doubles, Mareschal-Hay has teamed with Mikael Erler for the majority of the season, owning a 9-7 record on the year, including an 8-6 mark at No. 3 doubles this spring. 

Mareschal-Hay is the fourth Viking to be named Player of the Year, while he becomes the fifth Viking to be named to the #HLTennis First Team multiple times during his career.

MIKAEL ERLER | JR | SECOND TEAM
Erler has been named to the All-League Second Team after finishing regular season play with a 17-11 overall record, including a 9-7 mark in dual match play. Playing in the top half of the singles lineup throughout the entire spring campaign, Erler had a stretch of 10 straight wins earlier this season.  

In doubles, Erler has teamed with Maxime Mareschal-Hay for the majority of the season, owning a 9-7 record on the year, including an 8-6 mark at No. 3 doubles this spring.

RAUL TEICHMANN | GR | SECOND TEAM
Teichmann picks up Second Team accolades after finishing regular season play tied for the team-lead with a 24-11 singles record. In Horizon League play, Teichmann finished 6-2 on the year playing throughout the middle part of the lineup.  

This spring, Teichmann owns an 18-5 singles record, ranking him second on the team for wins during dual match play.

In doubles, Teichmann has played the entire spring campaign at the top of the lineup, teaming with Kade Mindry to post a team-best 17-11 record – including a 13-8 mark at No. 1 doubles. The duo enters tournament play tied for ninth on the CSU Single-Season Doubles Wins List.

Teichmann becomes the 17th Viking all-time to earn a spot on the All-League Second Team.
