Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Remains Perfect In #HLTennis Play With Win Over Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis kept its record perfect in Horizon League play Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory over Chicago State to close out its 2023 home slate. With the win, the Vikings improved to 17-6 overall this year and remain perfect in Horizon League play at 5-0.

Cleveland State got out to the early 1-0 lead on Saturday, with JuandeDios Abboud/Carl Gedlitschka picking up a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles and Maxime Mareschal-Hay/Mikael Erler earning a 7-6(1) victory at the No. 3 spot. With their win at No. 2 doubles, Abboud and Gedlitschka remained perfect in league play at 5-0 on the year.

Raul Teichmann picked up the first singles win against Chicago State, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to put the Vikings up 2-0.

Kade Mindry then gave the Vikings a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, before Devin Boyer posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 spot to clinch the match for Cleveland State.

The Vikings then picked up two of the final three singles points, with Gedlitschka earning a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles and Mareschal-Hay picking up a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(8) victory at the top of the lineup. With his win at No. 1 singles, Mareschal-Hay remained perfect in league play, improving to 5-0 against #HLTennis opponents.

Cleveland State will continue Horizon League play on the road next weekend, traveling to Northern Kentucky on Saturday, April 15 and IUPUI on Sunday, April 16.
