Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Earns 4-3 Victory Over Youngstown State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team remained perfect in Horizon League play Thursday evening, picking up a 4-3 victory over Youngstown State in front of a maximum capacity crowd at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. With the win, the Vikings improve to 16-6 overall this year, and 4-0 in league action.

Cleveland State was able to earn the early doubles point against Youngstown State, picking up wins at the top two spots. JuandeDios Abboud and Carl Gedlitschka earned a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Kade Mindry and Raul Teichmann battled back to notch a 7-6(6) victory at the top spot to clinch the doubles point for the Vikings.

With their win at the No. 2 spot, Abboud and Gedlitschka remained perfect in Horizon League play, improving to 4-0 against league opponents and 13-8 overall this season.

Teichmann quickly added to the Cleveland State lead to begin singles play then, as he earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles before Maxime Mareschal-Hay put the Vikings up 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the top of the lineup.

After Youngstown State picked up wins at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, the Vikings responded with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles from Mikael Erler to clinch the match for Cleveland State.

With his win at No. 1 singles, Mareschal-Hay recorded his 20th singles win of the season, while Teichmann improved to a team-best 21-10 with his win at the No. 4 spot.

Mareschal-Hay also remained perfect in #HLTennis play, improving to 4-0 this season.

The Vikings will close out their 2023 home slate on Saturday, hosting Chicago State at 2:00 p.m.
