Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Closes Out Home Slate Against YSU & Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will close out its 2023 home slate this weekend, continuing Horizon League play by hosting Youngstown State and Chicago State in a pair of matches at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings remained perfect in #HLTennis play, picking up a 6-1 victory at Chicago State to improve to 15-6 overall this season and 3-0 in league play.  

#HLTennis Slate
Cleveland State enters the third week of Horizon League play with a perfect 3-0 record – one of three league teams to be undefeated through the first two weeks of action. The Vikings are now 3-0 to begin #HLTennis play for the third time over the last four seasons that there has been a regular season league slate (2020 regular season slate cancelled due to COVID-19). 

…Trio Remains Perfect In #HLTennis Singles PlayThe Cleveland State trio of Devin Boyer, Carl Gedlitschka and Maxime Mareschal-Hay remained perfect in Horizon League singles play last time out, as all three picked up wins against Chicago State to improve to 3-0 on the year. Mareschal-Hay is now 14-3 all-time against league opponents in regular season play, while Boyer and Gedlitschka are undefeated during their first season of #HLTennis play.

…Abboud & Gedlitschka 3-0 In #HLTennis Doubles Play
Cleveland State's No. 2 doubles team of JuandeDios Abboud and Carl Gedlitschka also improved to 3-0 against league opponents last weekend, picking up a 6-4 victory at Chicago State. Abboud and Gedlitschka are now 12-8 on the year, including a 9-5 mark when playing at the No. 2 spot this spring.  

Vikings At The MMTP
This weekend's matches will mark the final two contests of an 11-match home slate for the Vikings this spring, with Cleveland State owning an 8-1 mark when playing at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion this season. Overall, the Vikings stand at 52-16 when playing at home, including a 25-5 mark over the last three seasons.  

Teichmann Notches 20-Win Season
Last time out, Raul Teichmann recorded his 20th singles win of the 2022-23 campaign with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set victory at Chicago State. Teichmann, who now owns a team-best 20-10 overall record this year, marked the second 20-win season of his Cleveland State career, also reaching the milestone as a freshman.  

Mindry Closing In On 50th Career Singles Win
Entering this weekend's matches, senior Kade Mindry currently has 48 singles wins on his career, needing just two more victories to become the third Viking to reach the 50-win milestone this season. Mindry, who has won three straight and six of his last eight completed matches, would join teammates Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Raul Teichmann in the 50-win club.  

CSU On Mini Four-Match Win Streak
Cleveland State will enter Thursday's contest on a four-match win streak, while the Vikings have also won 11 of their last 13 matches. During this span, Cleveland State ended the month of February winning seven straight matches, while the Vikings also ended the month of March on a 3-0 stretch.  

Scouting The Opponents
Entering Thursday's match, Youngstown State also owns a 3-0 record in Horizon League play, while the Penguins were picked to finish second in the #HLTennis North Division Preseason Poll right behind the Vikings. 

Saturday's Chicago State match will mark the second half of the #HLTennis slate for the Vikings, with the Cougars currently sitting at 0-4 in league play during their first year as an affiliate member of the Horizon League.
