Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Earns 6-1 Victory At Chicago State

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team remained perfect in Horizon League play Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory at Chicago State. With the win, the Vikings are now 15-6 overall this season and 3-0 in #HLTennis play.

Saturday's match marked the first meeting between Cleveland State and Chicago State as Horizon League opponents.

"This was a good match for us today, Chicago State is a strong team that pushed us in just about every match," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I thought we were mentally tough today, and played some big moments really well. We are looking forward to getting back to the MMTP next weekend to continue Horizon League play!"

The Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point on Saturday, as Carl Gedlitschka and JuandeDios Abboud earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles and Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Mikael Erler picked up a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot.

Raul Teichmann then gave Cleveland State a 2-0 lead to begin singles play, as he notched his 20th singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set victory at No. 4 singles.

Although Chicago State was able to pick up a point with a win at No. 2 singles, the Vikings responded with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win from Kade Mindry at No. 3 singles, before Devin Boyer clinched the match with a 7-6(2), 7-6(3) win at the No. 6 spot.

Cleveland State then added two more points to close out singles play, as Gedlitschka posted a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles and Mareschal-Hay earned a 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-5 victory at the top of the lineup.

The Vikings will return home to continue Horizon League play next weekend, beginning with a 6:00 p.m. match against Youngstown State on Thursday, April 6.
