Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Returns To Action Against Buffalo, Ball State & Niagara

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will continue its 2023 spring slate with a trio of matches this weekend, traveling to Buffalo on Friday, February 10 before hosting Ball State and Niagara on Sunday, February 12.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings picked up back-to-back wins against Butler and Findlay, improving to 4-3 on the young season. Cleveland State opened the weekend with a 4-3 victory over Butler, before earning a 5-2 win against Findlay.  

Vikings On Hot Streak
After opening the season 1-3, the Vikings have rattled off three straight wins, picking up wins over St. Bonaventure, Butler and Findlay during this stretch. These last three wins have given head coach Brian Etzkin 294 victories on his career, as he is closing in on reaching the 300-win milestone during his tenure with the Cleveland State men's tennis team.  

Mindry & Teichmann Named #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week
Earlier this week Kade Mindry and Raul Teichmann were named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week after picking up a 6-4 victory over Alvaro Huete and Thomas Brennan of Butler – the 52nd ranked doubles team in the country. For the season, Mindry and Teichmann are 7-5 in doubles play, including a team-best 3-2 record at No. 1 doubles this spring. This marked the second weekly honor for the duo this season.  

Cleveland State At The MMTP
This weekend's matches will be the fifth and sixth of 11 home matches inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion for Cleveland State this year. Since moving into the MMTP during the 2016 spring campaign, the Vikings have posted a 47-16 record when playing at home, including a 3-1 record so far this season. 

Teichmann Notches Double-Digit Singles Wins
After picking up a win in his lone singles match last weekend, Raul Teichmann became the first Viking to reach double-digit singles wins this season, entering the weekend with a team-best 10 victories. Teichmann is currently on a three-match win streak, and has won four out of his last five matches.   

Mareschal-Hay and Teichmann Closing In On 50 Career Singles Wins
Entering the weekend, the duo of Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Raul Teichmann are closing in on 50 career singles wins, Mareschal-Hay owning 44 wins and Teichmann standing at 43 wins. So far this season, Teichmann has a team-best 10 singles wins, while Mareschal-Hay is close behind with nine victories. The duo would become the 18th and 19th Vikings all-time reach the 50-win milestone.
