Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Defeats Purdue, 5-2

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season Friday, earning a 5-2 victory at Purdue.

Despite dropping the doubles point, the Viking duo of Kade Mindry and Raul Teichmann earned a 6-4 victory at the top spot, picking up their first doubles win of the spring campaign.

The Vikings then evened the score with a 6-4, 6-2 victory from Cole Chappell at the No. 5 spot to start singles play, before Purdue picked up a win at No. 3 singles to regain a 2-1 lead.

Cleveland State was able to once again even the score with a 7-5, 7-5 win from Maxime Mareschal-Hay at No. 1 singles, while a 6-4, 6-3 victory from Mindry at the No. 2 spot put the Vikings up 3-2.

The clinching point against Purdue came from Teichmann at No. 4 singles then, as he earned a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 come-from-behind win to clinch the second straight victory against the Boilermakers for Cleveland State.

JuandeDios Abboud put the final point of the match on the board for the Vikings, earning a 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.

The Vikings will now close out their first weekend of the spring campaign at No. 5 Michigan on Sunday, January 22, with first serve set for 5:00 p.m.
