Kelly Bertrams

Kelly Bertrams will begin her seventh season as part of the Cleveland State coaching staff during the 2023 season, serving as an assistant coach for the Vikings.

Bertrams joined the Vikings prior to the 2017 season, following a three-year stint at Fairfield University where she helped the Stags to a 68-28 record as an assistant coach. During her time at Fairfield, the Stags captured back-to-back MAAC Tournament Championships during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, while also claiming the MAAC Regular Season title during both years.

Bertrams played her collegiate volleyball at Buffalo, where she was the team’s primary libero throughout her four-year career. As a two-year captain for the Bulls, Svoboda Bertrams holds the program record for career digs with 1,928, while she also holds the single-season record after posting 634 digs as a senior.

Following her senior campaign, Bertrams was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MAC First Team, becoming the first Buffalo player to earn either honor in the Mid-American Conference.

A native of Cleveland, Bertrams played her high school volleyball at Trinity, while playing her club volleyball with Cleveland Volleyball Company. In June of 2021, she married Matt Bertrams, a former assistant coach for the Cleveland State lacrosse team. Kelly and Matt have one son, Bennett.
