Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Set To Open #HLTennis Slate At YSU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will begin Horizon League play Saturday, traveling to Youngstown State for an 11:00 a.m. contest.

Last Time Out…
Cleveland State closed out non-league play with a 6-1 victory over Dayton, entering the Horizon League portion of its spring schedule with a 9-6 overall record.  

#HLTennis Slate | Preseason Poll
This weekend's match at Youngstown State will mark the first of a six-match Horizon League slate for the Vikings. Earlier this season, the Vikings were picked to finish second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, earning 42 points and two first-place votes. 

#HLTennis History
Over the last five seasons the Vikings have combined for a 35-10 regular season record against Horizon League teams, including the program's first-ever undefeated campaign last year. With the 6-0 record against #HLTennis teams last season, Cleveland State captured the 2022 Regular Season Championship, marking the team's fifth regular season title. 

Vicario Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
After picking up a win at the top of the lineup against Dayton last weekend Oihane Vicario was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. Vicario, who picked up her second weekly honor of the season, earned a 7-6(5), 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, improving to 8-7 this spring.  

Heren & Yauch Named #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week
For the second time this season the Vikings swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren were named the Doubles Team of the Week following a No. 1 doubles win against Dayton. Last time out, Heren and Yauch posted a 6-3 win against the Flyers, improving to a team-best 10-5 overall this year, including a 9-5 record at No. 1 doubles this spring. 

Vevere Closing In On 20-Win Season
After winning her last four matches, Tereze Vevere enters Saturday's match with 19 singles wins on the year, just one win shy of recording her second straight 20-win campaign. So far this season, Vevere leads the team with a 19-9 overall record, including a 10-5 mark this spring as one of just two Vikings with double-digit wins in dual match play.
