Vikings Defeat Gannon in Impressive Fashion 162-55

Cleveland, Ohio- The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team defeated Gannon 162-55 on Friday afternoon at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

The Vikings (6-4-0) had first place finishes by Sammie Sposet in the 3-meter dive with a top score of 284.05 and also finished atop in the 1-meter dive with a score of 280.60.  In the 400 medley relay the Vikings started off strong in the meet with a top finish of 4:00.64. Hayley Smith, Dayna Kiekebosch, Alex Johansson, and Amanda Pallijia led the way for CSU.  Senior Erin Jajtner claimed a first place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a wall touch of 10:51.76.  Feshman sensation Rowan Elbadry finished atop the leader board with a top time of 1:54.88 in the 200 freestyle.  Senior Alex Johansson swam a fast time of 24.35 in the 50 yard freestyle.
 
In the 200 IM Jodi Turk finished first with a time of 2:14.25.  In the 200 butterfly Meghan Miller took first with a time of 2:08.94.  Elbadry had her second first place finish victory in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.33.  Smith added her second first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.76. Turk had her second first place finish of the meet in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:13.11.  The lady Vikings finished the day off finishing first in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:33.81.  Kopacko, Elbadry, Johansson, and McConnell contributed in the win.    
 
Head coach Wally Morton spoke about the dominant performance against Gannon. "I was very pleased with team's swims.  The teams swam with high energy and have the utmost respect for all of the opponents.  We did an excellent job racing against Gannon.  I thought the divers were really impressive with their dives and consistent and the hard work paid off," said a pleased Morton.
 

"The two swimmers that really jumped out were Rowan Elbadry and Alex Johansson.  The other swimmer that had an impressive meet was Hayley Smith.  She was very impressive.  It was good to have Nikki Kolis back swimming for us again.  I was really pleased with a senior on our team, Erin Jajtner who won the 1,000 free.  That to me was incredibly impressive.  She did it with a time of 10:51.76.  A lot of swimmers contributed and it was a total team effort." 

 Other key contributors that had impressive finishes were Kathleen Chandler with a score of 229.85.  Bethany Robertson finished right behind Jajtner with a time of 10:56.86 in the 1,000 freestyle.  Amanda Pallijia finished behind Elbadry with a runner-up time of 1:56.89 in the 200 freestyle.  Christine Kopacko finished second in the 50 free with a time of 24.92.  Hayley Smith came in second behind Turk with a time of 2:14.91.  
 

Alex Dimasso finished runner-up with a score of 280.60.  Coming in third was sophomore Kayley Chevalier with a time of 2:16.33 in the 200 butterfly and in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.79.  Senior Nikki Kolis had a second place finish in the 500 freestyle with a wall touch time of 5:20.87.  Jajtner added to her excellent performance against the Golden Knights finishing third in the 500 free with a time of 5:23.44.  In the 200 breastroke Kiekebosch added a second place finish with a time of 2:30.38.  Junior Erin Bender came in third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:34.24.    

The Vikings will return back to action tomorrow afternoon as CSU will host conference foe Wright State at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.  Swimming events will begin at 1:00 p.m.
