SETTING THE SCENE:  The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action at home on Friday (Jan. 17) against Gannon University at 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday against Wright State (Jan. 18) for a league dual at 1:00 p.m.

REVIEWING LAST TIME OUT:  The men and women had solid performances in the City Dual Meet against Notre Dame College (OH) and Canisius back on Tues.Dec. 3.  Alex DiMasso won the 1-meter dive (225.15).  DiMasso's win marked her first official collegiate win of her diving career at Cleveland State. Kathleen Chandler won the 3-meter dive with a score of 249.15.  In the 200 Medley Relay the Vikings finished atop with a time of 1:51.41.  Alex Johansson, Madisen Tretter, Meghan Miller, and Christine Kopacko led the charge for CSU.  Sophomore Jodi Turk finished first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:39.26.  Freshman Rowan Elbadry finished atop the leader board in the 200 freestyle with a wall touch time of 1:54.62 and also in the 100 free with a time of 53.20.

FINISHING AT THE TOP:

  • The men and women had 17 combined first place finishes against NDC and Canisius.

U.S. WINTER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS:

  • Eight talented CSU swimmers (Adam Ingledew, Alex Lewis, Alex Johansson, Al Shillito, Madisen Tretter, Justin Kermack, Nathan Grant, and Gage Alleman) had the opportunity to swim against top talent in Knoxville, Tennessee from Dec. 5 - Dec. 7.

WOMEN HAVE STRONG SHOWING FROM ELBADRY, DiMASSO, TURK, and SMITH AT CITY DUAL MEET:

  • Rowan Elbadry won a pair of individual events in the 200 free (1:54.62) and the 100 free (53.20).  She also contributed a first place finish in the 200 free relay (1:38.25).
  • Alex DiMasso posted a top score in the 1-meter dive (225.15).  Marking her first official collegiate win at Cleveland State.
  • Jodi Turk won two swimming events in the 1,000 free (10:39.26) and the 500 free (5:12.89).  Hayley Smith tallied two first place wins in the 200 IM (2:14.00) and the 100 back (59.79). 

VIKINGS SWIM IN PUERTO RICO:

  • Alex Johansson and Rowan Elbadry had solid performances in the pool.  Johansson swam in the 50 free taking seventh and Elbadry finished fourth in the 100 free.  CSU (Elbadry, Morris, Tamas, Kopacko) finished fourth in the 500 free relay (4:52.33).

UP NEXT:

  • The Vikings will travel to Rochester Hills, Mich. to swim against conference opponent Oakland and Xavier on Sat. (Jan. 25) for a tri-meet.  Events will begin at 1:00 p.m.
