Women's Swim Team Prepare For Second Dual Meet Against Green Bay

REVIEWING LAST WEEK:

Women-  Won, 169.5-130.5 over Youngstown State.

Men - The team was idle.

  • Freshman Rowan Elbadry set a pool natatorium record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.37 at YSU.  The previous record time was 1:53.69.
  • Along with winning the 200 free, Elbadry also won the 100 free where she had a top time of 52.49.
  • Sophomore Jodi Turk had a pair of first place finishes in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:37.92 and in the 500 free with a time of 5:10.66.

STARTING OFF STRONG:

  • The women's swim team won eight out of 16 events against YSU.
  • CSU finished first in the 1,000 free, 200 free, 100 breast, 1-meter diving, 100 free, 200 breast, 500 free,and the 400 free relay.

FAB FRESHMAN:

  • Incoming freshman standouts who will help contribute are Rowan Elbadry.  She will compete in the freestyle and butterfly events.
  • Ally McConnell and Meghan Miller will swim in the butterfly events (100 and 200 fly).
  • Dayna Kiekebosch at YSU finished first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.98 to  begin her CSU swimming collegiate career. 
  • Adriana Cannon will compete in the butterfly sprint and the 200 butterfly for the Vikings.
  • Miranda Martinez will swim in the freestyle and backstroke events for CSU.
  • Madisen Tretter had a solid showing begining her CSU career at Youngstown State, finishing first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:30.20.
  • Tara Vermandere will get a chance to swim in the breastroke and IM events.

PREVIEWING THE WOMEN:

  • The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team is coming off a 12-4 finish in 2012-13, and are ready to continue the program's rise toward the top of the Horizon League in 2013-14.
  • The Viking returners this season are a record-breaking bunch.

SENIOR LEADERS:

  • The women will be anchored by Alex Johansson, Christine Kopako, Nikki Kolis, Hannah Morris, Amanda Pallija, and Ashley Rossi.
  • Johansson won the 100 freestyle, and 100 fly at the League Championships.
  • Kopako will return to the pool, who will compete in the sprint events.
  • Senior Nikki Kolis set a school record in the 1,650 yard freestyle last year, with a time of 17:19.33.
  • Hannah Morris had the second best time in the 200 backstroke (2:07.99) at last year's Horizon League Championships.
  • Pallija had the fourth best time in the 200 freestyle at the Horizon League Championships.
  • Ashley Rossi will swim in the distance and backstroke events for the Vikings this season for Coach Morton.

UP NEXT:

  • The men and women will hit the road to Columbus, Ohio to compete with Ohio State, Denison, and Virginia Tech on Friday (Nov. 1) at 5:00 p.m.  The men only will return home for a dual meet against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday (Nov. 2) at 2:00 p.m.
