Holbrook Named #HLWSOC Defensive Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Cleveland State senior goalkeeper Stevie Holbrook has been named this week's Nike #HLWSOC Defensive Player of the Week, the Horizon League announced on Friday afternoon. Holbrook is the first Viking this season to be awarded the league's Defensive Player of the Week honor, but the third Viking to be recognized by the Horizon League, as both Elena Gutlove (Feb. 12) and Maddie Young (Feb. 19) took home the Offensive Player of the Week award this season.

The senior goalkeeper made six saves in Cleveland State's 3-0 shutout win against Robert Morris on Tuesday. Holbrook tallied a pair of saves over a span of 40 seconds in the 65th minute to bring her game total to six, matching a season-high set on Feb. 10 against Wright State. The shutout victory marked her first clean sheet of the season.

On the year, Holbrook has been credited with all five of Cleveland State's wins and only three of the team's losses. Over her four-year career as a Viking, the Huron, Ohio, native has recorded 13 shutouts, moving her into second place all-time in shutouts by a Cleveland State women's soccer goalkeeper.

With the Green and White's #HLWSOC win, the Vikings still find themselves with a chance to make the postseason. Cleveland State will wrap up its regular season on Monday at 5 p.m. against Detroit Mercy.
