SETTING THE SCENE
The Cleveland State women's soccer program hits the road on Wednesday morning for a match against Horizon League rival Oakland. After dropping their opener against IUPUI, the Vikings bounced back with a dramatic 2-1 double-overtime victory over Wright State at the Krenzler Bubble. Cleveland State dominated shots 28-9, but the Raiders created an early 1-0 hole with a tally in the 33rd minute. Maddie Young netted her first marker as a Viking midway through the second half before Elena Gutlove found the golden goal with less than five minutes to play in the second overtime period. Cleveland State is now searching for its first winning streak since claiming four straight against conference foes during the 2018-19 season as part of a 6-2-1 #HLWSOC showing.

A WIN ON WEDNESDAY WOULD...
Stretch Cleveland State's point streak against Oakland to four straight matches. The Vikings tied the Golden Grizzlies in each of the last two seasons after logging a 4-2 victory in 2017-18. It would also push Cleveland State above .500 in #HLWSOC play and potentially vault the Vikings up the early-season league standings.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Oakland (1-1-0) enters the match coming off a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of UIC. The Golden Grizzlies won their road opener against Youngstown State by a 2-1 margin. Oakland's offense is currently led by goal-scorers Jackie Reilly and Macey Wierenga in addition to Carmela Barro, who dished out assists on both tallies. Between the posts, goalkeeper Noemi Stadelmann has stopped two of four shots.

GUTLOVE TO SEE IT
Senior midfielder Elena Gutlove had a career day in Cleveland State's victory over Wright State last week, logging a career-best nine shots, including six on goal, before finding the game-winning tally in double overtime, controlling a cross on the back post to setup a near-post finish. Gutlove's heroics earned her Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. It marked the first time a Viking took home a #HLWSOC player of the week award since Grace Krosky received the accolade for her two-goal effort against Northern Kentucky on October 12, 2019.

GENERATING OFFENSE
Cleveland State ranks second in the Horizon League in both shots on goal (17) and total shots (34). Gutlove paces the Vikings and the conference in both categories, recording 11 shots overall and seven on net.

FINDING THE SCORESHEET
Freshmen Maria Bashardoust and Kathryn Ramicone, two of the Vikings' three freshman starters, each logged their first point via assist against Wright State. Ramicone sent a cross in directly following a corner kick that led to the Vikings' game-tying goal before Bashardoust hustled to save a long pass from rolling out of bounds in overtime before finding Gutlove on the back post for the 2-1 victory.

PICKING UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
Goalkeeper Stevie Holbrook is off to a great start, stopping 10 of the 12 attempts that have come her way for an .833 save percentage to pair with a .920 goals-against average. Holbrook, a senior, logged her 10th career Horizon League win last week.
