BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Vikings nearly came from behind on Sunday afternoon but fell short to Bloomsburg, 27-18. With the setback, the Green and White fall to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the MAC.
Cleveland State claimed the first match of the afternoon behind a 14-1 major decision by Logan Heil at 125-pounds to lead 4-0. Bloomsburg got on the board after picking up a 4-2 decision at 133-pounds to trail by one.
The Huskies then recorded three straight falls at 141, 149, and 157 pounds to take a 21-4 advantage.
Cleveland State started its comeback as Riley Smucker picked up the second major decision of the afternoon, winning 16-2 at 165-pounds to trail 21-8. Anthony Rice continued the trend for the Green and White with a 12-3 major decision as the margin was trimmed to 21-12.
DeAndre Nassar was trailing 2-1 with six seconds left in the 184-pound match when the redshirt sophomore came up with a big takedown to win, 3-2 as Cleveland State closed to within six, 21-15.
Ben Smith notched the fourth major decision of the afternoon, winning 19-7 at 197-pounds as Cleveland State trailed 21-19. However, Bloomsburg halted the comeback with their fourth fall of the afternoon at 285-pounds, winning the match 27-18. At the conclusion of the heavyweight match, Cleveland State was deducted a team point.
The Vikings will conclude their regular season with a 1 p.m. match at George Mason on Sunday, February 20.
