Cleveland State Wrestling Defeats Clarion on the Road, 18-15

CLARION, Pa. – The Vikings upended Clarion 18-15 in a road MAC match on Tuesday evening. With the victory, Cleveland State improved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the MAC.

Clarion snagged the opening three points of the match with a 10-4 decision at 125-pounds before Jake Manley knotted the score at three-apiece with a 3-1 decision at 133-pounds.

The Golden Eagles reclaimed a 9-3 advantage after Seth Koleno picked up a fall in 4:08 at 141-pounds. However, back-to-back decisions by No. 32 Marcus Robinson (141-pounds) and Daniel Patten (157-pounds) evened the match at 9-9.

No. 33 Riley Smucker gave Cleveland State their first lead of the night, 12-9, with a 6-3 decision at 165-pounds. Clarion came right back with an 8-2 decision at 174-pounds as the match was tied for a third time on the night, 12-12.

DeAndre Nassar won 3-1 in overtime at 184-pounds as the Vikings went back in front, 15-12. Cleveland State took their largest lead of the evening, 18-12, following an 8-3 decision by Ben Smith at 197-pounds.

Clarion took the final match of the evening at 285-pounds with a 5-2 decision, but Cleveland State won the match, 18-15.

Alumni Day
Cleveland State will be hosting Alumni Day on Saturday, February 5 at 7 p.m. against Ohio University inside Woodling Gymnasium. For $20 alumni can attend a reception at Mather Mansion and then get into the match. Alumni are asked to RSVP by February 1 and can do so by clicking here.

The Vikings have adjusted their weekend schedule and will now host Rider and Edinboro on Saturday, starting at 12 p.m. The Vikings will still face Navy on Sunday at 2 p.m.
