CLEVELAND, Ohio - Intermat has announced its Preseason All-MAC Teams, with three Vikings being recognized. Ben Smith was named to the First Team, while Riley Smucker and DeAndre Nassar were named to the Second Team.
Smith, a senior from North Canton, Ohio, is coming off an NCAA Championship appearance at the 197-pound weight class. He entered the championship as the No. 24 seed. On the year, he went 6-6 with four decisions, one major decision, and one fall.
Smucker, a redshirt sophomore from Smithville, Ohio, is coming off a 6-4 season at the 165-pound weight class. On the year, he had five decisions and one major decision. Off the mat, Smucker was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Academic Team.
Nassar, a redshirt sophomore from Bluffton, Ohio, is coming off an NCAA Championship appearance at the 184-pound weight class. Nassar was seeded No. 26 at the event. He finished the year with a 9-5 record with all his victories coming by decision. Off the mat, Nassar was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Academic Team.
Cleveland State opens its season on Sunday, Nov. 7 with three matches at Rutgers. The Vikings will also face Binghamton and NJCU on the day.
