CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State wrestling team is back in action for a pair of duals on Thursday (Dec. 19) when the Vikings travel to Boone, N.C.

The Vikings will face Appalachian State at 5:00 p.m. before taking on N.C. State at 7:00 p.m.  The Vikings come in with a 1-3 dual meet record including a 32-6 win over John Carroll University on Tuesday (Nov. 26).  Freshman Nick Corba picked up his eighth win of the year with an impressive 8-0 major decision over JCU's Mike Marotta.  Jake Smith (165) picked up his first win of the year dominating his opponent Thomas McNulty with an 11-2 major decision win.  In the latest dual meet, CSU dropped a 25-6 decision at Northern Illinois.

Last Saturday (Dec. 14) the Vikings competed in the ninth annual CSU Open at Woodling Gym.   The Vikings had 15 wrestlers competing against 25 different schools and over 200 wrestlers.  Xavier Dye and Jared McKinley both had top-five finishes to lead CSU.  

With a major decision win and winning by forfeit on Saturday at the CSU Open, 133-pounder McKinley added his 10th and 11th victory on the year tying 125-pound sophomore Daniel King for the team-lead with 11 wins on the season.  McKinley has posted five decisions, four wins by forfeit, and has one victory each by major decision and by tech fall.  

Freshman 174 pounder Nick Corba has a 9-3 record on the year.  Corba has two pins, one major decision, and six decision wins for CSU.  Sophomore 141 pounder Michael Carlone is 8-4 on the season, wth five decisions and has won by forfeit, tech fall and by major decision.   

The Vikings will be back in action on Jan. 1-2 when CSU competes in the Southern Scuffle at Tennessee-Chattanooga.  Wrestling  will begin at 9:00 a.m. on both days.
