Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Set To Open #HLTennis Play

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team will open Horizon League play this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State on Friday, March 22 and hosting Chicago State and Baldwin Wallace on Sunday, March 24.

The Vikings enter the weekend with a 9-6 record on the year, most recently picking up a 5-2 victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Cleveland State will begin #HLTennis play as the 2024 North Division favorite, as the Vikings were tabbed to win the division in the Horizon League Preseason Poll.

Sunday's matches against Chicago State and Baldwin Wallace will be the first home contests for the Vikings since February, as Friday's match at Youngstown State will be closing out a five-match roadswing.

As part of this five-match roadswing, the Vikings have faced some of their toughest competition of the year, playing three power five opponents, including nationally ranked Baylor.

Entering the weekend, five Vikings have double-digit singles wins, led by Devin Boyer with 18. Carl Gedlistchka (17), Nico Jamison (13), Lincoln Battle (11), and Mikael Erler (10) also have 10+ singles wins on the year. In dual matches only, Battle and Gedlitschka both have a team-best nine wins.

In doubles, Gedlitschka and JuandeDios Abboud have a team-best 13 wins on the year, while Battle and Boyer have 10 wins so far this season. Gedlitschka and Abboud's 13 wins are part of 28 career wins for the tandem, ranking them third on the CSU Doubles Wins List.
