Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Sweeps #HLTennis Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the fourth straight week the Cleveland State men's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, with Kade Mindry earning Singles Player of the Week honors and JuandeDios Abboud and Carl Gedlitschka being named the Doubles Team of the Week. This marks the first weekly honor of the season for all three.

Last time out, this trio helped the Vikings to a 1-1 week, including a 4-3 victory at Toledo – marking their third straight 4-3 victory.

"Kade had a great weekend, he beat two quality opponents and got to clinch a 4-3 match against Toledo," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I was happy for him to get the experience of clinching a 4-3 match – which I don't think he has done before – and secure the win for the team. Kade is clicking on all cylinders right now, which is a great sign for the team."

In singles, Mindry posted a 2-0 weekend at the No. 2 spot, picking up a pair of three-set victories. Against Toledo, Mindry earned a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(5) win to clinch the match for the Vikings, while he followed that up with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win against Ball State.

"Juan and Carl had a very nice win against Ball State, playing as sharp as they have ever looked. Both Juan and Carl are students of the game, and they came out of a good week of practice refreshed, energized and on-point," Etzkin said.

In doubles, Abboud and Gedlitschka went 1-0 at the top of the lineup, helping the Vikings earn the doubles point at Ball State. The duo earned a 6-2 victory against the Cardinals, improving to a team-best 10-5 on the season. In addition, the duo is now tied for sixth on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 25 victories as a tandem.
