CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened play at the Viking Invitational Friday, with four players advancing in the Main Singles Draw and three teams advancing in the Main Doubles Draw.

The Viking quartet of Mikael Erler, Carl Gedlistchka, Andrew Zimcosky, and Alan Matyjas all made it to the third round of the Main Singles Draw, with Gedlitschka, Zimcosky and Matyjas all picking up two wins and Erler earning one win after getting a bye into the second round.

In addition, the quartet of Devin Boyer, Cole Chappell, JuandeDios Abboud, and Ty Rothchild also picked first round wins for the Vikings on Friday before falling in their second round matchups.

In doubles, the Vikings had three teams advance to the quarterfinals of the Main Doubles Draw, with Devin Boyer and Alan Matyjas earning a 7-5 win over IUPUI, Mikael Erler and Austin Staiger posting a 6-3 win over Holy Cross and Carl Gedlitschka and JuandeDios Abboud earning a 6-2 victory over Western Michigan.

Play at the Viking Invitational will continue tomorrow, beginning with doubles at 9:00 a.m.
