CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened its fall slate Saturday, with Mikael Erler competing at the ITA All-American Championships and the remainder of the team in action at the YSU Invite.

Mikael Erler went 1-1 in the pre-qualifying draw of the ITA All-American Championships, making his third appearance at the tournament. Earler earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Oklahoma State's Carl Roothman, before dropping a 6-0, 6-2 contest against Leo Raquin of Middle Tennessee State.

At the YSU Invite the Vikings went 4-0 in their doubles matches, including a 6-0 victory for Carl Gedlitschka and JuandeDios Abboud. The duos of Andrew Zimcosky/Alan Matyjas (6-2), Cole Chappell/Austin Staiger (6-3) and Devin Boyer/Nico Jamison (6-4) also picked up wins.

Gedlitschka and Boyer both went 2-0 in singles on Saturday, Gedlitschka with wins against Youngstown State and Eastern Kentucky, and Boyer with wins over Youngstown State and Bellarmine.

Cleveland State also got singles wins from Staiger, Matyjas, Abboud, Chappell, and Jamison, with Jamison marking his first collegiate singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Bellarmine.

Jamison was making his collegiate debut Saturday, after joining the Vikings as a true freshman prior to the 2023-24 season.

Cleveland State will close out its opening weekend of the fall campaign tomorrow, with doubles and singles action at the YSU Invite and a consolation match for Erler at the ITA All-American Championships.
