Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Continues #HLTennis Play At Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will look to stay unbeaten in Horizon League play this weekend, traveling to Chicago State for a 3:00 p.m. EST contest on Saturday, April 1.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings went 3-0 in their return to the MMTP, including a pair of Horizon League wins against IUPUI (5-2) and Northern Kentucky (6-1). Cleveland State picked up its third win of the week with a 7-0 sweep over West Liberty to improve to 14-6 overall this season.  

#HLTennis Play
Cleveland State enters the second week of Horizon League play with a perfect 2-0 record – one of three league teams to be undefeated through the first week of action. The Vikings are now 2-0 to begin #HLTennis play for the fourth time over the last five seasons that there has been a regular season league slate (2020 regular season slate cancelled due to COVID-19). 

Quartet Goes 2-0 In #HLTennis Singles Play
The Cleveland State quartet of Devin Boyer, Mikael Erler, Carl Gedlitschka, and Maxime Mareschal-Hay all went 2-0 in league matches last weekend, with Boyer and Gedlitschka both playing in the first #HLTennis matches of their careers. Erler improved to 6-1 in regular season league matches, while Mareschal-Hay is now 13-3 all-time against league opponents in regular season play. 

Erler Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
In addition to his 2-0 start to league play, Mikael Erler also picked up a win at the top of the lineup against West Liberty, earning Horizon League Singles Player of the Week honors after going 3-0 last time out. Erler, who picked up his two league wins at the No. 2 spot, improved to 16-6 overall this season and 8-2 in dual matches.  

Chicago State Joins #HLTennis
Saturday's match against Chicago State will be the first time that the two teams are meeting as league opponents, as the Cougars joined the Horizon League as an affiliate member for men's and women's tennis prior to the 2022-23 academic year. All-time, the Vikings own a 6-0 record against Chicago State.  

CSU On Mini Three-Match Win Streak
Cleveland State will enter Saturday's contest on a three-match win streak, while the Vikings have also won 10 of their last 12 matches. During the stretch, Cleveland State ended the month of February winning seven straight matches, while the Vikings ended the month of March with their 3-0 performance last weekend.
