Cleveland State’s Phillips & Mostardi Earn Oracle/ITA National Doubles Ranking

TEMPE, Ariz. – For just the second time in program history Cleveland State has been featured in the Oracle/ITA Doubles Rankings, as the duo of Nico Mostardi and Luke Phillips earned a spot in the final rankings of the 2020-21 campaign.

COMPLETE ORACLE/ITA NATIONAL RANKINGS

Mostardi and Phillips came in at No. 67 in the final rankings, joining the tandem of Mostardi and Benjamin Slade who finished the 2018-19 season ranked No. 90 as the only Cleveland State doubles teams to appear in the national rankings.

Mostardi and Phillips are one of just seven mid-major teams to be ranked in the top-70, while they are the only duo from the state of Ohio to earn a spot in the rankings.

The duo posted a 12-4 record at No. 1 doubles this season, including a 7-6(5) victory against the then-ranked No. 6 Kentucky duo of Cesar Bourgois and Gabriel Diallo in NCAA Tournament play. Mostardi and Phillips' victory at the top of the lineup against the Wildcats clinched the doubles point for the Vikings – marking the first point in NCAA Tournament play in program history.

Earlier this spring, Mostardi and Phillips helped the Vikings capture their eighth Horizon League Tournament title after picking up a win at No. 1 doubles in the championship match, while they were also an integral part of Cleveland State's 15-match win streak – which marked the longest win streak under head coach Brian Etzkin.

As a duo, Mostardi and Phillips combined for 27 wins on their career - tied for third on the CSU Team Doubles Wins List as one of six Viking tandems with 25+ wins. Individually, Mostardi finished his career ranked fifth with 78 doubles wins, while Phillips tied for eighth with 70 doubles victories.
