Men’s Tennis Set To Host Case Western

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will take a quick break from Horizon League play this weekend, hosting Case Western on Saturday, April 3.

Due to the conditions created by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Cleveland State will not allow spectators at any home matches during the 2021 campaign.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings opened Horizon League play with a pair of wins at UIC, picking up 5-2 and 7-0 victories over the Flames. This marked the 10th time under head coach Brian Etzkin that the Vikings have started league play with a perfect 2-0 record.

Vikings Extend Winstreak
With the two wins at UIC last weekend, the Vikings extended their current winstreak to six straight matches. Cleveland State, who has won nine of its last 10 contests, finished the month of March with a 6-1 record after posting a perfect 3-0 mark during the month of February. 

Terry Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
Earlier this week senior Matthew Terry was once again named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week, picking up his third straight weekly honor. Terry posted a 2-0 record against UIC last time out, picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. Terry's three Singles Player of the Week honors marks a league-high for the 2021 campaign.

Trio On CSU Singles Wins List
The trio of Nico Mostardi, Matthew Terry and Luke Phillips all improved their standing on the CSU Singles Wins List last time out, as the trio combined for a 5-0 singles record against the Flames. Mostardi finished the weekend ranked fourth on the CSU Singles Wins List with 86 wins, while Terry is right behind him with 85 career victories and Phillips is tied for ninth with 73 wins. Mostardi and Terry are two of just five Vikings all-time to reach the 85-win milestone, while Phillips is one of 11 Vikings to eclipse 70 career victories.

Mostardi & Phillips On CSU Doubles Wins List
After going 2-0 at the top of the doubles lineup last weekend, Nico Mostardi and Luke Phillips moved into the top-10 on the CSU Team Doubles wins List, finishing the weekend tied for ninth with 22 wins as a tandem. Individually, Mostardi moved into sixth place with 73 career doubles wins, while Phillips now ranks 10th with 65 career doubles victories. On the season, the duo owns a team-best 7-1 record, with all eight matches coming at the No. 1 spot.

Santilli Remains Undefeated On The Season
Senior Jack Santilli posted a pair of wins at UIC last weekend, improving to 4-0 overall this season. Santilli picked up both of his wins in straight sets, including a 7-5, 6-3 victory during the first match of the weekend that served as the clinching point for the Vikings. 

Vikings With The Doubles Point
So far this season Cleveland State has picked up the doubles point in 11 of its 13 matches, including both matches against UIC last time out. For the year, Nico Mostardi and Luke Phillips own a team-best 7-1 record, while the duos of Clark Bilinovich/Raul Teichmann and Mathew Terry/Maxime Mareschal-Hay both have four wins on the year.
