Men’s Tennis Sweeps Weekly #HLMTEN Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time this season the Cleveland State men's tennis team swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Matthew Terry was named the Singles Player of the Week and the duo of Clark Bilinovich and Luke Phillips was named the Doubles Team of the Week.

Last time out, this trio helped Cleveland State to a pair of wins over St. Bonaventure, picking up 7-0 and 4-0 victories over the Bonnies to improve to 5-4 this season.

Terry went 2-0 in singles play on the weekend, picking up a 7-5, 6-2 win at the top of the lineup in the first match and a 7-6(3), 6-2 win at No. 2 singles in the second match. With the two wins, Terry improved to 4-3 on the year, while he also eclipsed the 80-win mark for his career.

"Matt has done a great job of stepping into the No. 1 spot for us this season, in both matches this weekend he played better and better as the match went on," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "He stayed focused early when the matches were close, and was able to reach a new level of his game by the end of each match. Matt is showing signs of hitting his stride on the court, and he is definitely going to be a tough out the rest of the season."

As one of just eight Vikings all-time to reach the 80-win milestone, Terry moved into seventh place on the CSU Singles Wins List, finishing the weekend with 81 career victories.

Bilinovich and Phillips also went 2-0 on the weekend, picking up both wins at the top of the doubles lineup against St. Bonaventure. The duo, which was playing together for the first time this season, picked up a 6-3 win in the first match and followed that up with a 6-4 win in the second match.

"Clark and Luke really set the tone for us in doubles last weekend," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I asked them to play together after we had some injuries in the lineup, and they did so without any issue and made a great No. 1 doubles team for us. It's a nice luxury to have a team of players that can play doubles with multiple partners while still creating energy and executing our doubles principles. Once again, the doubles point was huge for us, and Clark and Luke definitely led the way this weekend."

So far this season, the Vikings have now earned the early doubles point in seven of their nine matches.
