Vikings Wrap Up Fourth Day of #HLSD Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The Cleveland State swimming and diving team wrapped up its fourth day of the 2021 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday evening. The Vikes will finish this year's championships on Saturday.

The Viking men are currently in second place in the standings, with a commanding 148.5 advantage over third place UIC. Cleveland State trails first place Oakland by 75.5 points.

Timothy Kubacki finished first overall in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:49.80. Kubacki not only finished first at the 2021 #HLSD Championships, but he also broke the program record for 400 IM - a record he set last year (3:50.41).

Cleveland State finished second in the 200-yard medley relay behind strong effots from Dominik Niedzialek, Griffin Manning, Colin Martin and Kenny Thomas

Martin (47.72) and fellow Viking Bob Fick (48.10) finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard butterfly while Bob Lenart took the eighth spot with an overall score of 49.63.

In the 200-yard freestlye, Nathen Eberhardt snagged the fourth overall spot with a time of 1:38.24. Spencer Tussing also competed in the 200 free final, finishing sixth, timing at 1:38.96.

Two Vikes swam in the 100-yard breaststroke final, as Griffin Manning finished third (53.70) and Jack Krusinski tied Benjamin Gingher of Youngstown State for the sixth spot (55.05).

Dominik Niedzialek finished in second place in the 100-yard backstroke with an overall finals time of 47.81. Freshman Kenny Thomas took the fifth spot in the 100 backstroke tallying a time of 48.96.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Green and White brought home the second spot as Niedzialek, Kubacki, Tussing and Eberhardt combined for a time of 6:35.30.

The Cleveland State women's team enters the fifth and final day of the 2021 #HLSD Championships in fifth place.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Green and White took an impressive second place finish, behind huge performances from Sule Van Der Merwe, Irena Weclawiak, Lexi Kostelnik and Rachel Contich. The four pulled out a spectacular time of 7:35.22.

Cleveland State's 200-yard medley relay team, which consisted of Caroline Hughes, Sophia Davis, Hayley Rupp and Rachel Contich, finished in the sixth spot, right ahead of Youngstown State.

Lexi Kostelnik finished sixth in the 400-yard IM with an overall time of 4:30.40, while fellow Vike Sule Van Der Merwe swam just behind Kostelnik, finishing in the seventh spot with a time of 4:31.06.

Rachel Contich took home a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.53, while Caroline Hughes took the fourth spot in the 100 backstroke, posting an overall time of 56.69.
