Vikings Shutout Green Bay 3-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio-  The Cleveland State men's soccer team shutout Green Bay 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Krenzler Field.

The Vikings (4-9-0, HL 1-2-0) were led by freshmen midfielder Sergio Manesio who scored two goals in the match.  Manesio on the year has three goals, tying him for the team lead with Jordan Hart.  CSU outshot Green Bay 13-5 in the game.

In the first half, the Vikings began their offensive scoring push, coming at the 24:09 minute-mark. Senior forward James Howe would score his first goal as a Viking from the top of the box giving CSU an early 1-0 lead.  Senior forward Admir Suljevic was credited on the assist. 

The Vikings would continue to pick apart Green Bay's defense, when Sergio Manesio would score the second goal of the contest, and his second goal of the year from the top of the net at the 31st minute of the match to give CSU a 2-0 advantage.  Suljevic would pick up his second assist in the game.  Manesio continued his solid and agressive offensive play when he knocked in a header off of a cross pass from Mike Matlock to give the Vikings a commanding 3-0 lead and the victory over Green Bay.

With the win, the Vikings defense put up their first shutout of the year.  Goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo tallied his second win of the season and had two saves in the contest giving him 17 saves on the year.

The Vikings will be back on the soccer field, when the team will hit the road to Bowling Green on Wednesday (Oct. 16) at 7:30 p.m.
