AKRON, Ohio - Cleveland State held steady in 13th place, carding a final-round 310 on Sunday at the First Energy Intercollegiate. Toledo won the 15 team event, which was hosted by Akron on the par 72, 7,125 yard North Course at Firestone Country Club.
The Rockets edged Ball State by five shots, 868-873, to claim first place after falling short last year by just two shots. The Vikings came in at 936.
Toledo's Justin Bertsch won medalist honors after defeating teammate Tyler Riley and Ball State's Wayne Denger in a three-way playoff. The trio had each finished the 54-hole event at 210 (-6).
CSU freshman Doug Barber posted his second consecutive 74 to finish in a tie for 26th at 226 (+10). Sophomore Mike Rutgers tied for 37th at 229.
The Vikings are in action again when they head to the Dayton Spring Invitational on April 25-26.
