Cleveland State vs. Kent State Postgame Quotes

Dec. 11, 2004

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

Cleveland State Head Coach Mike Garland

On tonight's game: "My hat goes off the Jim Christian and his team and the effort they made. They did everything you have to do to win a ballgame on the road. The way they came back on us shows tremendous character within their program."

On his team: "Our young men played some good basketball. Down the stretch I thought we had some shots that normally go down for us. For whatever reason, they just didn't go in tonight."

On Kent's run: "During that run, I put our team in a bad position. The thing that we used to get the lead, was the very thing that hurt us in the end. I kept our defense extended and was too bullheaded to take it back in and force them to shoot from the outside."

_____________

Cleveland State Freshman Mike Redell

On how he felt at the end: "Disappointed. I don't think any of us were shocked we were up. We stopped on defense and that was a big part of what made us successful. In the first half, we getting up on defense, getting steals and our energy was up. That energy helps create our offense. We were all feeling good and confident and didn't have the same feeling when they were scoring."

_____________

Kent State Head Coach Jim Christian

On the comeback: "We went to a smaller-quicker line-up to cause some turnovers, spread the floor and force some shots. I thought we were sluggish in the first half."

On what he said at halftime: "It's a team, one guy doesn't bring you back in a game like this. We have a very well-rounded basketball team and we need to step up collectively. Just like in the first half we didn't play well collectively."
