Field Goal Drought
• The Vikings opened the second half with a 9-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 53-34. Cleveland State led 53-36 at the 14:23 mark but went 9:19 without making a field goal. The Vikings made just nine free throws during that span as Kent State cut the deficit to 62-60 before Modibo Niakate knocked down a three-pointer with 5:04 remaining.

Free Throws
• Cleveland State built -- and then held on to its lead -- by making 16 consecutive free throws spanning the halftime break. The Vikings set team season-highs for free throws made (23), attempted (29) and free throw percentage (79.3).

Patrick Tatham
• Tatham scored 16 points, one shy of his career high and matched his season-best with eight boards. He set career-highs for free throws made (7) and attempted (10) in the process.

Mike Redell
• Scored a career-high 10 points, all of which came on a 10-for-11 effort at the free throw line.

Raheem Moss
• The sophomore was not expected to play after suffering a sprained left ankle in the opening minutes of Wednesday night's Akron game but entered the game at the 17:07 mark and played 31 minutes, with seven points and three rebounds. Moss did not practice on Thursday or Friday but did take part in the one-hour practice on Saturday morning.

Steve Gansey
• The freshman guard from Olmsted Falls, Ohio made his first career start at shooting guard. Gansey's appearance marks the third different starting lineup for the Vikings in five games.

Second-Chance Points
• Cleveland State held a 12-6 advantage in offensive rebounds, turning that into a 15-4 margin in second-chance points.

Field Goal Defense
• Kent State shot 50.0 percent (25-50) from the field -- a CSU opponent high this season. The Flashes were especially effective in the second half, going 15-for-26 (57.7 percent).

The Series
• Kent State defeated Cleveland State for the fifth consecutive time and leads the overall series by a 24-15 margin.
