Cleveland State vs. Kent State

Nov. 29, 2006

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters: "I want to give a `hats off' to Kent State. They didn't back down. We had a 14-point lead and they were able to fight back in the game. They have a very good team. But we had two keys we wanted to do this game and that was to outrebound them and to hold them under 40 percent shooting. And we were able to do those."

On Winning While Shooting 36 percent: "When you can shoot like that and win a ballgame, you have to feel pretty good about that."

On Winning At Home: "This is our home and we have to make this the most difficult place to play in America. Teams come in here have to fear coming into this place. And that is something that wasn't understood at this insititution before and I think our guys understand that now. We can't let people come here and take things away from us."

Cleveland State Guard Carlos English On Play In Pressure Situations: "We practice pressure situations every day so mentally and physically we were prepared. We were ready for them when the time came in the game."

Cleveland State Guard Victor Morris On Learning From Past Close Games:  "We definitely take every game as a learning experience. You have to pick something up from each game and use it in the next game. We closed this one out because what we learned from previous games."

On Beating Kent For The First Time In His Four Years: "My first three years here Kent beat us. Some games were out of reach and some were close. But to pull this one out feels really good."

Kent State Head Coach Jim Christian: "You can't play on the road and shoot like that on the foul line and expect to win. We fought back and gave ourselves a chance, but we shot ourselves in the foot every time we tried to fight back."
