Cleveland State Head Coach Mike Garland: "Say what you want: we won a game shooting 34 percent from the field. That says a ton about our defense. We have always said that we wanted to pride ourselves in our defense."

"We tried to press a little bit tonight, a little more than we normally do. But that wasn't really what got us the game. What got us the game was that blue collar, backyard style of play. Just digging in on offense and not letting them score."

"We worked real hard on our rebounding this week. In the second half, we held them to only four offensive rebounds, where, in the first half, I thought they hurt us . We came back and did a great job at that."

Cleveland State center Ije Nwankwo: "I played a little bit too aggressive. I was looking for contact on some shots but didn't get it. But it's better to be aggressive than not aggressive."

On playing against Chuck Bailey and Torvoris Baker: "They're pretty tough down low. They post up pretty hard and, on defense, they try to wedge you out of the post. You just have to try to be physical with them and try and match their aggressiveness."

Cleveland State guard Steve Gansey: "This game was a big confidence booster. We all picked everybody up. After Carlos (English) missed those two free throws, everyone was saying `Hey, you missed those, but we're still going to win.'"

On finding his shot: "My teammates got me the ball. After I hit my first one, they just started dumping them to me."

Detroit Head Coach Perry Watson: "A very disappointing loss, we just lost all our poise up 11 and didn't execute. Not to take anything away from Cleveland State. I think Cleveland State started playing desperate, they shot 20 percent in the first half so they started played desperate and aggressive and it paid off for them. They got 17 offensive boards and we turned the ball over 21 times and that was just totally opposite of how we played to get the lead."

On the second half: "I thought we just got out of whack, when we were executing we were getting good looks and then we just got out of whack."

"I thought they came with a lot of determination and aggressiveness and they caught us not answering back."
