Cleveland State Fencing Set to Compete at NCAA Regional Championships

Evanston, IL-The Cleveland State fencing teams are set to travel to Northwestern for the NCAA Midwest Regional championship competition, hosted by Northwestern and scheduled for tomorrow. 

The top placers in each weapon for each gender will qualify for the National Championships, March 23-26 in Durham, NC. The top four fencers in each weapon will qualify automatically, with the exception of women's foil which will have five bids. At-large bids will also be available and can be awarded to any athlete that does not qualify automatically.

Cleveland State has qualifiers in each weapon on the men's and women's side. On the women's side, Lily Robertson, Maia Taylor Casamayor, and Mira Semenets will compete in epee. Addie Mantoan, Illyssa Freiburger, and Sarah Calvert are set to compete in saber. In foil, Shelbie Seeberg and Gabi Hirsch will represent CSU.

On the men's side, Merik Pohl, De'Mario Steele, Drew Walker, John Hackman, and Jesse Ndjeka will compete in epee. Mason Moskowitz will compete in saber and Hary Hardman, Conner Shepherd, Paul DiVenti, and Evran Walter are set to compete in foil.

In addition, several Vikings were named all-conference by the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference at the conclusion of the regular season. Steele was named to the second team and Pohl was named Honorable Mention in epee. DiVenti and Shepherd were both named to the second team in foil, and Moskowitz was named to the second team in saber.

On the women's side, Robertson represented CSU on the second team in epee. Hirsch was named honorable mention in foil, and Freiburger was named honorable mention in saber.
