Duchow Finishes Fourth at Midwest Regionals

DETROIT, Mich.-  The Cleveland State fencing team competed at Midwest Regionals on Saturday.  13 fencers participated and five of the 13 CSU fencers earned top 12 wins.

The Vikings were led by sophomore Paul Duchow (Epee).  He finished fourth overall and is currently eligible to qualify at the NCAA Championships.  Duchow earned a first round bye, but then knocked off Zaekin-Scott Moses 12-3 in the second round to advance into the semifinals.  He  lost his last two matches to his opponents, but ended finishing an impressive fourth place.  Senior Tom Bienvenu (Saber) finished eighth and Phelan Spence (Foil) finished 12th respectively.

On the women's side, senior Maureen Forinash competed at Midwest Regionals for the first time.  Freshman Samantha Finster finished 11th overall and Christine Bocci finished 15th.  Megan Rose of CSU finished 17th and Emily Serbinowski finished 18th.

Head Coach Andy Tulleners spoke about the team's performance at Midwest Regionals.  "This was one of our successful regionals we have had as a team," said Tulleners.  "Paul (Duchow) was great on Saturday.  He was facing some adversity early, but managed to return back to his original form.  He is currently in the mix of potentially qualifying for the NCAA Championships.  We will just have to wait and see."
