Cleveland State Athletics has announced the hiring of Matt Oberlin as the department's Senior Associate AD, Business & Facility Operations. Oberlin, a former student-athlete, brings over 10 years of experience to Cleveland State.

"My family and I are truly blessed to join the Cleveland State family," said Oberlin. "We would like to thank Scott Garrett, the search committee and the entire athletic department for welcoming us to Cleveland. We cannot wait to immerse ourselves into this culture and help create a transformational experience for all Viking student-athletes."

Oberlin comes to Cleveland State after two years as Associate AD, Capital Projects, Facilities and Events at Central Michigan University. The newest Viking managed all CMU capital projects, which included the Chippewa Champion Center, IAC indoor track renovation and the men's basketball locker room enhancement, totaling over $31,000,000.

Oberlin's duties also included oversight of all event management operations, maintaining daily facility management projects and schedules, as well as serving as sport administrator to the baseball (primary) and wrestling (secondary) programs.

Prior to his time in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Oberlin spent five years at the University of Central Florida as Assistant AD, Event Management. There he supervised and executed all home athletic contests, served as the game manager for home football games and had direct oversight of the facility and operations budget, as well as minor project budgets.

Oberlin received his first full-time job in 2007, serving as Assistant AD, Facilities and Events at Saginaw Valley State, overseeing athletic facility capital projects, directing game operations for all 16 of the school's varsity sports and coordinating all travel arrangements for postseason trips.

Oberlin has an extensive list of event oversight throughout his career, including 2020 MAC Indoor Track Championships, 2017/2018 AAC Football Championship, 2018 AAC Men's Soccer Championship, 2017 March Madness Regional Manager and 2016 AAC Men's Basketball Championship, among many more.

A 2005 graduate of Alma College, Oberlin received his MSA – Sport Administration from Central Michigan in 2007, where he also served as a facilities and event management assistant.
