Meet 8 - Horizon League Championship

THE STARTING LINE: The Cleveland State women's cross country team heads to Indianapolis for the Horizon League Championships on Saturday (Oct. 28). The event, hosted by Butler University, begins with the men's race at noon with the women's race to follow at approximately 12:40 p.m.

 

THE LAST TIME OUT: Freshmen Caitlan Ebner and Colleen Conway finished three seconds apart at the top of the CSU llineup in leading the Vikings to a third place finish at the Kent State Short Course Classic. Ebner placed 15th in the race with a time of 12:10, while Conway's run was good for a 16th place finish. Three other Vikings covered the 3K course in less than 13 minutes, led by junior Christina Swierz (12:35, 21st overall), followed by sophomore Madeline Singer (12:51, 23rd) and senior Sherri Douglas (12:56, 24th). Sophomore Audrey Piotrowski placed sixth in the CSU lineup and 25th overall with a time of 13:01, followed by sophomore Melisa Mazanec (13:29, 28th) and senior Shannon Graves (13:32, 29th).

 

CSU VS. THE HORIZON LEAGUE: The Vikings placed ninth at the 2005 Horizon Leauge Championships, which marked the first time since 2003 that CSU had enough runners to post a team score. The Vikings have never finished higher than ninth at the league meet since in expanded to nine teams in 2002.

 

SEVENTH HEAVEN: Caitlan Ebner has been the top runner for CSU in each of its seven meets this season. Her season-best 5K time of 20:10 came at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 9 and her second-best effor came Saturday at the Falcon Invitational. Twice this season - at the Tom Evans Invitational on Sept. 9 and again at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 16 - she has finished two minutes ahead of any other CSU runner.

 

JAKETIC ON THE VIKINGS: "I like the way we have come along as a team heading into the league championships.We have battled through some injuries but we are as healthy right now as we have been all year and we are hoping that translates into our best effort yet against the rest of the teams in the league."
