Meet #5 - Earlham Invitational
Date: Saturday, September 29, 2007
Time: 11:00 am
Site: Richmond, Ind.
THE STARTING LINE: The Vikings will travel to Richmond, Ind., to compete in the Earlham Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 29). The race is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
LAST TIME OUT: CSU placed third at the Ohio University Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 22). Allison Craine was the top finisher for the Vikings for the fourth straight race as she placed 10th with a time of 19:21, while Alison Ohliger finished 21st as she recorded a time of 20:18 in her second race of the season.
THE HEAD COACH: In his third season at the helm of the cross country team, Joe Jaketic has continued to make steady progress in building the program. Last season, Jaketic guided the squad to an eighth place showing at the Horizon League Championships. It marked the first time since the 1997 MCC Championships that CSU finished ahead of a league foe. Jaketic is a veteran of CSU athletics as he is in his 37th season overseeing the department's equipment operations.
LEADER OF THE PACK: Freshman Allison Craine has been CSU's top finisher in all four races this season, including at the Mel Brodt Invitational(Sept. 15) when she recorded a personal best time (19:02). That shattered her previous best time of 20:16 set at the Bill Sudeck Invitational on Sept. 1. Her 19:02 is the top time by a CSU runner since Amy Ritzman ran an 18:53 and placed sixth at the 1992 Mid-Continent Championships.
OHLIGER BACK ON TRACK: After missing the first two races of the season due to injury, sophomore Alison Ohliger has come back strong the last two weeks. In her first competitive action of the season at the Mel Brodt Invitational (Sept. 15), she ran a 21:27 before following that up by placing 21st with a time of 20:18 at the Ohio Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 22).
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Identical twins Julie and Audrey Piotrowski are once again teaming up on the course after Julie missed all but one race last season due to injury. Julie has been CSU's third finisher three times this season and was second at the Mel Brodt Invitational (Sept. 15). Audrey was fifth for CSU in the first two events of the season.
UP NEXT: The Vikings will return to action at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday (Oct. 5) in Delaware, Ohio. The race, which will be hosted by Ohio Wesleyan, is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm at the Methodist Theological School.
