THE STARTING LINE: The Vikings will travel to Valparaiso, Ind., to compete in the Crusader Open on Friday (Sept. 7). The meet, which will be CSU's second this season, is slated to begin at 6:00 pm (EST).

LAST TIME OUT: Cleveland State opened the 2007 season with a 10th place finish out of 14 teams at the Bill Sudeck Invitational on Saturday. Allison Craine led the Vikings with a 16th place finish as she ran a personal best time of 20:16. Colleen Conway was CSU's second finisher in 21:00 (41st place), just one second from tying her personal best, while Julie Piotrowski, who was running her first race since the 2006 Bill Sudeck Invitational, finished 65th (21:43).

THE HEAD COACH: Joe Jaketic is in his third year as the head coach of the Vikings. Last season, he guided the squad to an eighth place showing at the Horizon League Championships. Although it is just his third season as women's cross country coach, Jaketic is certainly a veteran of CSU athletics. He is now in his 36th season overseeing the department's equipment operations.

NICE START: Allison Craine recorded a personal best time of 20:16 on Saturday and was the Vikings top finisher in her first collegiate race. She finished 16th.

SEEING DOUBLE: Identical twins Julie and Audrey Piotrowski will once again team up and cause opponents trouble this season. Julie, who missed all but one race last season due to injury, was CSU's third finisher at the Bill Sudeck Invitational, while Audrey was the team's fifth finisher.

LUCK OF THE IRISH: Colleen Conway, who placed 42nd at the Horizon League Championships last year, got off to a solid start in her second season as she ran to a 41st place finish on Saturday. Her time of 21:00 flat was just one second from tying her personal best set last year at the Falcon Invitational.

UP NEXT: The Vikings will return to action at the Mel Brodt Invitational on Sept. 15. Bowling Green will host the event, which is scheduled to begin at 10:45 am.
