Cleveland State cross country and track & field head coach Jason Hudson announced the addition of James Evans to his staff prior to the 2021-22 campaign, with Evans serving as an assistant coach for both the cross country and track & field teams.

Evans joined the Vikings with multiple years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level, including stops at Lakeland Community College, Case Western and Oberlin College. Among many highlights during his coaching tenure, Evans was named the Coach of the Year by the Northeast Ohio Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.

During his time at Case Western, Evans coached four NCAA National Champions along with 16 All-Americans.

Evans was a two-sport student-athlete at Wittenberg University, competing on the track & field and men’s basketball teams. During his collegiate career, Evans was an NCAA Division III All-American in hurdles and long jump, while also earning First Team All-OAC honors in basketball and Wittenberg MVP accolades in both sports.

Evans is a member of both the Wittenberg Athletic Hall of Fame and the Warrensville Heights High School Alumni Hall of Fame.
