FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Cleveland State cross country team was back in action Saturday, competing at the 2023 Horizon League Championship.
"I'm really proud of how we competed today, we ran as a pack with only 14 seconds between our first and fifth runner," head coach Jason Hudson said. "Sage ran a great race today, and I have been telling that she had this race in her, and it was great to see it come out today. We are a young team and we will continue to get better as we get older - the future is bright!"
Overall, the Vikings recorded seven personal-best times on Saturday, including five from the freshmen class.
Once again, Cleveland State was paced by a rookie, as Sage Colòn was the first Viking to cross the finish line in a time of 23:27, marking the first time this season that she has been Cleveland State's top finisher.
Four other Vikings finished right behind Colòn, as Brooke Bechtel recorded a time of 23:32, Madelynn Madison posted a time of 23:34, Natalie Keller finished the 6K race in 23:39, and Ana Crangle notched a time of 23:42. All five of Cleveland State's top finishers recorded personal-best times on the day.
Kiannah Sarver (23:53) and Mia Beemsterboer (23:57) were the next two Vikings to cross the finish line, while Ariana Coats tallied a time of 24:05.
In addition, Sophia Pomnean (24:22), Madeline Crissman (25:47) and Savannah Shaver (25:47) also competed for Cleveland State, with both Pomnean and Shaver notching personal-best times.
Cleveland State will wrap up the 2023 campaign in mid November, competing at the NCAA Regionals.
