Cross Country Set For 2019 #HLXC Championship

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team will return to action this weekend, participating in the 2019 Horizon League Championship. This year's championship will be hosted by Northern Kentucky, with the women's 6K race slated for a 12:00 p.m. start on Saturday, November 2.

Vikings At The #HLXC Championship
Cleveland State's best finish at the Horizon League Championship has been fourth place, which the Vikings posted during the 2011 and 2017 campaigns. Individually, Cleveland State's highest finish was by Anna Brandt last year, as she posted a third place individual finish.

…Vikings At The Valhalla Cross Country Course
This year's #HLXC Championship will take place at a familiar course for the Vikings, as Cleveland State ran on the Valhalla Cross Country Course earlier this season at the Queen City Invitational. During this meet, the Vikings posted a trio of sub 20-minute 5K times at the Valhalla Cross Country Course, including a time of 18:32 from Anna Brandt.

Brandt Trying For Third All-League Honor
Junior Anna Brandt will be trying to earn All-Horizon League honors for the third time in her career this weekend, needing a top-14 finish on Saturday to achieve the feat. Brandt has earned First Team honors during both of her first two seasons, becoming the first Viking all-time to be a two-time First Team honoree. Brandt was also named the Freshman of the Year as a rookie, the first Viking to earn the accolade.

Cleveland State's Top-Three Finishers
Over the last three races, Cleveland State has had the same top three finishers, as Anna Brandt, Olivia Hammons and Hannah Korte have paced the Vikings. In the lone 6K during this stretch, Brandt recorded a time of 22:46, Hammons finished in 24:01 and Korte notched a time of 24:19.

2019 Cleveland State Cross Country Schedule
The #HLXC Championship will be the fifth of six races for the Vikings this season, and just the second 6K. The Vikings have had three weeks off from competition, last participating in the Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 12.

…Last Time Out
The Vikings had one of their best performances of the season at the Disney Cross Country Classic, finishing second as a team. Individually, Cleveland State recorded a trio of top-15 finishes, including a pair of top-10 finishes from Anna Brandt (7th) and Olivia Hammons (9th).
