Butterbaugh & Marshall Record Personal-Best Times At HL Championship

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team competed at the 2015 Horizon League Championship Saturday afternoon, with two Vikings earning top-40 finishes.

"We didn't have the performance that we would have liked to have today, but I thought they all fought hard and pushed through the race," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "Although we didn't get the finishes that we would have liked, Samantha and Emily were able to post personal-best times and ran a good race. As always, I'm proud of this group and what they have accomplished so far this season, and we will continue to work hard in the few weeks leading up to the regional race."

Cleveland State's top finisher was Samantha Butterbaugh, who placed 24^th overall with a career-best time of 23:09. Butterbaugh's 6K time bettered her previous career-best which she set at the All-Ohio Championship earlier this season. Ashlyn Woods was the next Viking to cross the finish line, placing 32^nd overall with a time of 23:21.

Butterbaugh and Woods both recorded top-15 6K times on the CSU top performances list, Butterbaugh's time tying for seventh and Woods' time ranking 14^th on the list.

The next four Vikings all finished within 29 seconds of each other, led by Marissa Sell who finished 76^th overall with a time of 25:02. Alanna Shamrock (77^th – 25:06), Ashley Lydic (81^st – 25:22), and Emily Marshall (82^nd – 25:31) rounded out this quartet, with Marshall also posting a career-best 6K time.

Megan O'Keefe (25:49), Kristin McCarthy (26:35), Sarah Mallow (27:04), and Marissa Ward (27:20) also competed for Cleveland State at the Horizon League Championship.

The Vikings will now have a week off from competition, returning to action at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional – the final race of the 2015 season – on Friday, November 13.
