Multiple Vikings Post Personal-Best Times At LHU Invitational

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Cleveland State cross country team competed in its first 6K race of the season Saturday, led once again by the duo of Ashlyn Woods and Samantha Butterbaugh at the LHU Invitational.

As a team, Cleveland State finished 11th out of 19 total teams, picking up 265 points.

"This was a beautiful day for a race, it was a fast, flat course and everyone ran very well today," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "Everybody was pushing themselves throughout the race, and when you are running in a big meet like this it is much easier to push yourself and become competitive when you have so many people to run with. I am so proud of how we ran today, and I am excited that all of their hard work during practice is starting to pay off for them."

Woods finished 12th overall out of 258 runners, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:25, a time that ranks second on the Cleveland State Top Performances list. Woods also notched a season-best 5K split of 18:44 at the LHU Invitational, a time that ranks second on the 5K Top Performances list.

Butterbaugh was the second Viking to cross the finish line, placing 35th overall with a career-best 6K time of 23:16. Butterbaugh's time also made the Top Performances list, ranking seventh, while her 5K split of 19:17 ranks 25th.

For the third race this season, freshman Marissa Sell finished in the top-three for Cleveland State, placing 73rd overall with a time of 24:08 in her first-ever 6K race. Sell's 6K time ranks 28th on the Top Performances list, while she also notched a personal-best 5K time of 19:56 at the split.

The next four Viking finishers all recorded lifetime-best 6K marks, including Ashley Lydic who was just shy of making the Top Performances list with a time of 24:47.
