Cross Country Ready For Carnegie Mellon Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team will participate in its sixth race of the season this weekend, taking part in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday, October 11. Saturday's 5K race is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Last weekend the Vikings competed in their first 6K of the season at the All-Ohio Championship, with four runners recording personal-best times. This group was led by Ashlyn Woods who placed 27th overall with a time of 23:37, while Katie Webb (24:01), Alanna Shamrock (24:18), and Megan O'Keefe (26:07) also posted career-bests.

2014 RACE-BY-RACE RESULTS

Saturday's race will mark Cleveland State's fifth 5K of the season, but the first since the Friendship Invitational on Saturday, September 20. So far this season, five Vikings have combined for 13 sub 20-minute 5K's, including Woods' time of 18:58 that she recorded at the BGSU Invitational.

Five returners have posted career-best 5K times so far this season, while two of CSU's freshmen have bettered their 5K marks each time on the course. Cleveland State has had multiple runners break the 20-minute mark in three of the four 5K races so far this season - including a program-best five runners at the Friendship Invitational.

The 2014 squad owns nine top-50 5K marks on the Cleveland State top performances list, including three that fall in the top-20. This group also owns four top-50 6K times which they set last week at the All-Ohio Championship.
