Four Record Personal-Best Times At All-Ohio Championship

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team competed in its first 6K race of the 2014 season Friday afternoon, with four runners recording personal-best times at the All-Ohio Championship. As a team, the Vikings finished seventh among division I schools.

"I am very proud and very pleased with the results from today's race, the times were phenomenal compared to last year's All-Ohio Championship," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "The top three finishers – Ashlyn, Samantha, and Katie – all went by the 5K mark under 20 minutes, so they were really pacing themselves and concentrating on running the entire course. Overall, they all recorded great times for it being our first 6K race of the season."

For the second time this season, Cleveland State's top three finishers were Ashlyn Woods, Samantha Butterbaugh, and Katie Webb. Woods and Webb both recorded personal-best 6K times, while Butterbaugh posted an excellent time for her first collegiate 6K. Woods placed 27th overall with a time of 23:37, while Butterbaugh finished 34th in 23:53, and Webb placed 38th crossing the finish line in a time of 24:01.

All three of these 6K times rank in the top-20 on the Cleveland State Top-Performances list, while Alanna Shamrock posted a top-35 time – placing 47th overall in a career-best time of 24:18.

Marissa Ward, who was competing in her first collegiate race, was the next finisher for Cleveland State, placing 58th overall with a time of 25:08. Madison Scagnetti and Megan O'Keefe were the final Vikings to pick up points at the meet, Scagnetti placing 59th with a time of 25:18, and O'Keefe recording a personal-best time of 26:07 to finish 62nd overall.

Also competing for the Vikings were Erin Pavick (26:43), Emily Marshall (26:45), Sierra Swigert (27:04), Ashley Lydic (27:58), and Sarah Mallow (28:18).

Next up for the Vikings will be the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday, October 11.
