Vikings To Run At Friendship Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team is set for its fourth race of the 2014 season, as the Vikings will take part in the Friendship Invitational on Saturday, September 20. Saturday's 5K race is slated for a 10:15 a.m. start at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio.

ELVIN R. KING CROSS COUNTRY COURSE INFORMATION

Last time out, the Vikings recorded a fourth place finish at the BGSU Mel Brodt Invitational, paced by four runners who recorded sub 20-minute 5Ks. This quartet was led by Ashlyn Woods, who finished the 5K in a time of 18:58 - becoming just the second Viking to break 19 minutes under head coach Joe Jaketic. Also recording sub 20-minute 5Ks were Katie Webb (19:20), Samantha Butterbaugh (19:45), and Alanna Shamrock (19:51).

Woods, Webb, Butterbaugh, and Shamrock all recorded personal-bests with their times from the BGSU Invitational, while five other Vikings also improved on their career-best times.

Junior Megan O'Keefe crossed the finish line in a career-best time of 21:17, while freshmen Emily Marshall (22:20), Kristin McCarthy (22:49), Madison Scagnetti (20:21), and Sierra Swigert (21:46) all posted the best times of their brief collegiate careers.

2014 RACE-BY-RACE RESULTS

Three Vikings recorded top-50 performances at the BGSU Invitational, including Woods who notched the third fastest 5K time since the 2005 season (18:58). Webb's time of 19:20 ranks 21st all-time, while Butterbaugh's time of 19:45 ranks 46th all-time.
